Sybil J. Hunter
Family nurse practitioner. Hunter provides primary care to patients in an internal medicine clinic and local nursing homes. In addition, she provides teaching and in-service to individuals, facilities and the community at large. Hunter plans and facilitates marketing strategies for recruitment of qualified nursing candidates. She often serves as guest lecturer for workshops in patient care, financial management and budget forecasting. She develops and implements quality assurance initiatives to improve patient care services. For example, several years ago, she asked the physician with whom she worked to provide free physicals and vaccinations to underserved students and athletics to ensure their well-being. Through these efforts to provide more thorough exams, several athletes’ lives were saved due to the discovery of heart murmurs. Over the years, she has continued this work and expanded its reach by joining forces with the Annie E. Hunt Women’s Missionary Society—and now with the Beasley Brown Community Development Corporation to provide free back- to-school physical exams. This year, her goal is to reach underserved students in four neighboring school districts.
Education: Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, Metropolitan State College-Denver, Colorado; BS in Health Care Management, University of Laverne (California); Masters of Science in Administration, Central Michigan University; Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, University of Tampa (Florida).
